Back to Routine: Laundry, Conferences & Catching Our Breath

There’s something about coming home after time away (or even just a week out of routine) that feels both comforting and completely overwhelming.

This week has been all about unpacking — and I don’t just mean the suitcases.

School was closed all last week, which meant slower mornings, less structure, and honestly… a little chaos. I love having my girls home, but when the routine shifts, everything else seems to pile up quietly in the background. Laundry baskets filled faster than I could empty them. Backpacks sat untouched. Emails waited. Orders needed finishing. Life kept moving, even if the schedule didn’t.

So this week? It’s catch-up mode.

The suitcases are finally unpacked (why do they always sit there longer than they should?). The laundry has been running on repeat. Towels, hoodies, school clothes, “I need this washed for tomorrow” clothes — you know the drill. I’ve been folding in between answering customer messages and packing orders for Shielded Hearts Clothing Co. Running a business while resetting a household is no small task, but it’s one I’m grateful for.

We also had parent-teacher conferences this week. I always walk into those with a mix of nerves and pride. There’s something sacred about sitting down and hearing how your children are doing — not just academically, but socially and emotionally. It’s a reminder that all the little daily things we do as moms matter. The rides. The reminders. The late-night talks. The prayers whispered over sleeping heads.

Parenting, business ownership, laundry piles, unpacking — it’s all intertwined. There isn’t a neat separation. It’s layered. And sometimes messy.

But here’s what I’m learning: getting “caught up” isn’t about having everything perfectly finished. It’s about intentionally stepping back into rhythm. One load of laundry at a time. One order packed with care. One conversation with a teacher. One prayer over the week ahead.

This season of life is full. Full of responsibilities, yes — but also full of purpose.

If your week looks anything like mine — stacks of laundry, emails waiting, schedules restarting — take a deep breath. You’re not behind. You’re building something beautiful in the middle of the mess.

Here’s to fresh starts after closed schools, clean clothes (eventually), and grace for ourselves while we catch up.

Rooted in faith. Resilient in the chaos. 💛
